  Looking for Liber Canticorum
Posted by: robkelk - 04-22-2007, 09:24 PM - Forum: Marketplace - Replies (12)

I have need for a copy of the In Nomine book "Liber Canticorum", but it's currently out-of-print at the publisher. The local game store doesn't have a copy. I can't figure out how to work the website of the next-closest game store (it relies on miscoded JavaScript, I think), so I have no idea whether a five-hour drive each way would help me.
I thought that if anybody would know of an available copy of "Liber Canticorum" kicking around, it might be somebody here. Does anyone have or know of a copy for sale?

Seriously, because I don't get a lot of time on the internet to check for myself and I have been out for a while. This could actually be a good chance for everyone to take a collective step back and see what we're doing.
Thoughts?

Amusing quotes from and about Scrappers ^_^
Posted by: Logan Darklighter - 04-21-2007, 02:37 AM - Forum: The Legendary - Replies (2)

As someone whose first COH character was a scrapper and who still runs a majority of that type, this amuses me, makes me nod my head and go "damn straight!".
View original thread here.
I've culled some of the ones that I liked the best here -
--------------------
I was reading "White Jazz" by James Ellroy and came across what I think should be the signature line for scrappers.
Quote:
"He's a scrapper, and scrappers get results sooner or later."
--------------------
My signature line would probably be more like: "There were HOW many of them in the group I just charged blindly into?"
--------------------
Followed by "Woops, scrapper lock!"
--------------------
"I'm just a Blapper with a better insurance policy."
--------------------
"Thus the blade is swung down"
--------------------
"Can I kill 'em yet? Can I? Can I?!?"
--------------------
"I'm like an imp, but with less fire, more doom and no leash at all whatsoever."
--------------------
"Why did you seven all die to that mob over there? I just fought this mob over here myself."
--------------------
"I'm not soloing, they started it!"
--------------------
I always liked "Why yes, I do think I'm a living blender."
--------------------
"We ready? Ready! Ready! Ready!... aw crap, there he goes again... crazy scrappers!"
--------------------
" 6...5... 4...close enough!"
--------------------
"I found the Boss... nvm I got him"
--------------------
"Whoops, did not see the AV..."
--------------------
"Why is this guy taking so long to defeat?"
*glances at target window*
"Oh, he's an AV. That explains it"
*continues fighting (actually happened on the Nemesis AV mission - scrapper running solo.)
--------------------
What goes through a Spines/Regen's mind when spying a large group of closely packed evil-doers...Other than "I can take 'em."
"Ohhhhhh.... Play pals!" [Image: happy.gif]
Then after the devastation..
"Awww... No one ever wants to stay and play with me... [Image: frown.gif]
--------------------
"look there's a large group! LEEEERROOOOY JEEEENKINS!"
--------------------
I think mine is still, 'Well, I needed two more guys to finish the 'Defeat X' mission...and that batch of fifteen was just *there*...'
--------------------
"Yup, that's a scrapper pull." (after I tried using laser eye beam to pull a single KoA and got the entire room)
--------------------
"Damn that was cool, but if you ever charge Envoy of Shadows again I'm booting you from the team." (after I lead the charge against EoS in the first encounter about 20 times with 20 team wipes in a row back in issue four)
--------------------
You want to taunt something? Stab it in the face.
--------------------
"The only line a Scrapper stands in is the line of fire"
--------------------
"My scrapper doesn't need an AoE. She is an AoE."
--------------------
"A scrapper's job is not damage... a scrapper's job is violence."
--------------------
Here is a good Scrapper quote, this guy musta been a Scrapper to the core:

Quote:
Hard pressed on my right. My center is yielding. Impossible to maneuver. Situation excellent. I am attacking. --Ferdinand Foch-- at the Battle of the Marne
--------------------
"Debt before dishonor!"
--------------------
I believe my favourite quote in regards to scrappers was along the lines of:
Tanker: "Silly scrapper, only I can survive jumping into mobs like that."
Me: *blinks* "Then why am I the one standing?"
--------------------
when the team says "sorry you died" i tell them,"bah i was getting too close to being out of debt anyway"
--------------------
Ok, some of these are better than others ... but they're a few of my rotating battle cries.
"Sticks and Stones may Break My Bones, but I Heal Fast."
"Sanity is for squishies"
"Imstillsaneimstillsaneimstillsane!"
*grins madly ear to ear and pulls out a spoon.* "THIS is gonna hurt!"
"Shower Me In Your Blood!"
"EARS! Rip off their Ears!"
"If the Good Die Young, I must be an Angel!"
"Kick it Where it Hurts. If it moves, it's still resisting arrest, KICK IT HARDER."
and of course ....
"Watch This!"

  Kheldian backstory
Posted by: Logan Darklighter - 04-20-2007, 11:29 PM - Forum: The Legendary - No Replies

Found this on the COH forums.
It's a very thorough article on what the conon story is for the Kheldians in the COH/COV universe.
This will prove very useful for writing up backgrounds for characters, as well as for roleplaying purposes. I highly recommend reading it.
One thing - how does this affect the way that we've written our Kheldian aspects in the "Virtue is it's own reward" thread? I don't see it affecting my perspective from Lora/Logan's POV too much, but I may want to add more asides from my Kheldian half.

  [Story] FTL Newsfeed part 1

Canonicity pending Fnord's review

CONSTANCE GARDNER: From ISN, this is FTL Newsfeed. A co-production of Radio Free Albemuth, ISN System Service and WFTL Crystal Kyoto. It's now August 20, 2009 at 1400 GMT. I'm Constance Gardner in Crystal Kyoto. In the wake of the tumultuous events surrounding the ratification of the Articles of Convention, it's becoming clearer that the thousands and thousands of people who have decided to live off Earth are becoming a society. And as this new Orthodoxy becomes settled and grows, so too does the darker elements of our society. But as orthodoxy is itself made up of multiple strands of thought and philosophy, so too does this society. In this first part of a multipart series, we examine the multiple movements that have come to be called collectively Boskonia. We will return with John Simmons' report on just one of the many groups that comprise Boskonia after the news.

  [STORY] Entertaining the troops(?)
Posted by: robkelk - 04-20-2007, 12:05 AM - Forum: Fiction - Replies (5)

(I thought I'd try writing a slightly different war story... I hope folks don't mind their characters' cameo appearances here.)

"The Boskonians were waiting in ambush again, damn them. That's the third action this week that's gone sour."

"'Gone sour'? Is that what you call the loss of a dozen ships?"

"No, I call the loss of a dozen ships 'a damned shame'. But if we don't do something to plug our information leak, there's going to be a hell of a lot more damned shames."

"... You're right. But how do we find the leak?"

"Simple, my dear. I've discussed this with Haruhi, and she's all for it. We take our radio show on the road."

A few hours later, the Epsilon Blade was on its way to the Belt.

Between Mars and the Asteroid Belt

Two men, not strangers but not quite friends, stood in their ships' airlocks.

"Do you think this is going to work, Scott?"

"It's the best idea we could come up with back at headquarters, Katz." Noah handed Schrodinger a thick sheaf of papers. "That's the entire plan. We're counting on you to make it work, once I finish my part. Good luck."

"We're going to need it, with this plan. Don't get blown out of the sky."

"You, either. Oh, Sora said to say 'hi'."

Noah closed the briefcase that was cuffed to his wrist and handed a thin sheaf of papers to the only other person in the room. "I'm sure you understand why Haruhi wanted someone to deliver these battle plans in person, Captain."

"Of course, Mr. Scott," replied the Pirate as both men stood up. "We can't take the risk of somebody discovering this before we implement it. But why the delay after assembling?"

For a moment, Noah looked like he'd bitten a lemon. "Haruhi said so."

"And there's no arguing with her, is there?"

"I'm afraid not. Is my people's show over yet?"

"If your time estimate was right, the actors still have seven minutes to perform before the end of the script. You and they should be returning to your ship within a minute of each other."

"Wonderful; we'll be able to make our next stop with plenty of time to spare. Oh, one more thing... I've always wondered: is the name supposed to be 'Harlock' or 'Herlock'?"

The Pirate glared at Noah. "We don't think about that, and neither should you."

"Now let me introduce you to the main cast of Red Lad: Kohran Li, who plays Red Lad; Lucie Cormier, who plays Miss Maire; and Earl O'Shaughnessy, who plays Dirk Boscome!"

The Dean of the Vesta Institute of Biochemistry closed his office door, giving him and Noah some privacy. "Okay, what's the deal this time?"

Noah opened his briefcase and withdrew a thin sheaf of papers from it. "There's another offensive planned for the day after tomorrow. I doubt that you'll need to worry any more than usual, but if anything goes wrong, I suspect the Professor will bring the casualties here for long-term treatment."

"Damn it, Scott, we're a university, not a hospital!"

"The VIB is the closest thing to a hospital anywhere near the front lines. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but you can't just let people die for lack of prompt treatment, can you?" Noah handed the papers to the Dean.

"I guess not. Say, you're the one who took Swansen and the others to Grover's Corners earlier this year, aren't you?"

"That's right."

"How is she?"

"Leda's doing fine, sir. I'm surprised you remember her."

"She's the best student we've ever had here."

"I never thought I'd ever visit this place," muttered Noah as the airlock cycled.

"We're just lucky they like the show," muttered Yoriko in return. "Otherwise they'd never have let us land."

The airlock opened to reveal a reception area, with three teenagers dressed in their culture's formal outfits. "Welcome to the Village Hidden in the Asteroids, Mr. Scott," said the only female in the team.

"Thank you, miss," replied Noah as evenly as he could. "I don't mean to be rude..."

"Yeah, right," whispered one of the teenaged males to the other.

"...but we're on a tight schedule. If you'd take Ms. Cormier, Ms. Li, and Mr. O'Shaughnessy to the assigned auditorium, they'll be happy
to put on a live Red Lad show for your brave fighters. While they're doing that, Ms. Nikaido would like to buy some provisions, and I need to meet with whoever your operational liaison is for Operation Great Justice." Noah held up the briefcase. "In private."

"Yoriko, we're having some trouble deploying this sensor buoy. Should I wake Noah?"

"No, Yayoi, I'm sure that Kohran can handle it."

"I sure can! Give me ten minutes..."

"Thank you for your cooperation in this, Headmaster." Noah closed his briefcase.

"Hogwarts has suffered as much from Reaver attacks as anyone else in the Belt has, Mr. Scott," commented the headmaster as he looked through the papers Noah had given him. "Your people's performance should be finished by now. Are you sure you won't stay for luncheon?"

"I wish we could, but we have a few more stops to make today. We can't keep everyone else waiting, can we?"

"Of course you're correct. But before you go, could I possibly get Ms. Li's autograph?"

Foundry Hephaestus

"... I hope we won't need your services, but if things go wrong, we'll need some wreckers out there to recover our ships before the Boskonians can rip the weapons out of them."

"I understand, Mr. Scott," replied Hermes. "Please leave the orders from Ms. Suzumiya on the desk; I'll read them later."

Noah did so. "I'm surprised that you even have a desk, let alone an office."

"It's actually Mr. Wiregeek's desk. Please say hello to Ms. Fujisawa for me."

"I will."

"Yayoi, Hermes says 'hello'."

"I wish I could have said hello to her in person."

"I'm sorry, but I need you at the helm at all times when we're this close to the action. But that was out last stop in the Belt; let's
go."

June 8, 2012

Between Mars and the Asteroid Belt

"We're picking up unscheduled activity near buoy seventeen."

Noah consulted his notes. "That's where we told the Potterites that the task force was gathering. Let Katz know, then call everyone else and tell them the plan's changed."

June 10, 2012

"...and Hephaestus reports that they were able to salvage enough parts and weapons from the
Boskonian hulks to build three fighter-class ships. Also, morale is up across the Star Patrol because of the USO tour; we should consider more tours with other acts. The only loose end we have is the exact identity of the Wizarding World double-agent."

Yoriko walked in on the meeting. "Not any more. Katz just called in from Hogwarts; they're going to need a new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher."

"What, again?"

  Overlooked factions?
Posted by: Freddy Isnot - 04-19-2007, 04:15 AM - Forum: Fenspace - Replies (14)

There are two factions I've been wanting to see but haven't.
A faction following Frank Herbert's Dune.
Many of them have become addicts to thionite which they refer to as Melange or the Spice. This could provide conflict with the Lensmen.
Actually three groups of people end up in this faction, those fen following Frank Herbert's Dune. Thionite addicts--this faction gives them an excuse for their addiction. And the final group of people are those that are anti-AI and anti-computers.
Subfactions:
Bene Gesserits - All-female group that seek total control over their bodies and use thionite to see the future.
The Mentats - A group that seek to master their minds, and become human computers. They use a derivative of thionite to focus their minds for computation.
The Spacing Guild - Currently experimenting on Fold technology and using thionite to expand their awareness in the universe.
CHOAM - Even among Fen there is greed. CHOAM is a growing corporation in Fenspace. Some anime fen also refer to it as GENOM.
The second faction is the Dorsai--a faction that follows Gordon Dickson's Childe Cycle series.
A group of military and combat specialists that form one of the best and most expensive mercenary groups in Fenspace.
Would it be reasonable to consider adding these factions to Fenspace?
